About the designer
Before establishing his own fashion house in 1952, Hubert de Givenchy had worked as a designer for renowned Parisian couturiers, including Robert Piguet, Lucien Lelong, and Elsa Schiaparelli.
For his inaugural collection, he introduced the 'Bettina blouse,' which was named after the famous model Bettina Graziani. In the following photo, she is seen wearing a Givenchy blouse.
Shortly after founding his brand, he met the actress Audrey Hepburn.
"Their friendship started over a misunderstanding. Givenchy had just opened his tiny couture house in Paris after working at Schiaparelli, and was told that a Miss Hepburn was coming to take a look. Thinking that it was Katharine Hepburn whom he was going to meet, he was surprised by the arrival at his shop of a tiny sprite of a girl dressed in Capri pants, T-shirt and ballet flats. She had been sent to Paris by the director Billy Wilder to select couture for her role in his upcoming film, Sabrina".

Their 39-year partnership began with the movie "Sabrina" and continued with "Funny Face", "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Charade", and "How to Steal a Million". He also designed for Lauren Bacall, Jacqueline Kennedy, Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo, Grace Kelly, and Sophia Loren.
