Kenneth Jay Lane was the most recognizable American jewelry designer for nearly 60 years. Lane was named "the undisputed King of Costume Jewelry" by Time Magazine. His jewelry was called "Fabulous Fakes," which convinced women, including Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Audrey Hepburn, to wear bijouterie instead of their real jewels.

Here is Jackie Kennedy wearing her Kenneth Jay Lane pearls:

And Carrie from "Sex and the City" with K.J.L. heart necklace:

In his autobiography "Faking It," Lane recounts his career and friendship with the Duchess of Windsor and other famous clients and muses. But once he said: "What pleases me more is that thousands of ladies can feel glamorous wearing my jewelry rather than just a few celebrities".

His company remains active and offers collections designed by Kenneth Jay Lane.

K.J.L. and Avon's collaboration began in 1986 when K.J.L. started to produce jewelry for Avon. The collection was well-received by Avon's customers and helped to increase sales. These pieces have since become collectibles.

These black enamel earrings are in perfect vintage condition. However, there are slightly visible marks of time.

By the way, do you remember our Leopard brooch by "Gem-Craft" company? The founder of that company Gene Verri graduated from Rhode Island School of Design — the same alma mater as Kenneth Jay Lane. Years later, Gene Verri started producing jewelry for the Kenneth Jay Lane brand.
